Fishing Report

5/30/25 Upper Arkansas River (Between Leadville and Buena Vista):

With the warmer air temps we are now experiencing high water conditions, especially below the Lake Creek confluence.  The elevation in flows is not as dramatic in Hayden Meadows yet but expect those flows to keep rising with warmer days in the forecast.  Water clarity is marginal first thing in the morning but progressively improves as the day goes on. This is the result of cooler, less turbid water from the high elevation snowmelt the night before catching up to the valley floor, improving the clarity from late morning through early evening.  Nymphing can still be productive, however the debris on the bottom of the river resulting from runoff can present its challenges.  We have seen some sporadic hatches of caddis and stoneflies, so anticipate an acceleration in bug activity with the warmer weather. Try throwing dry dropper rigs on the clearing edges, pocket water and velocity breaks.
