Colorado Fly Fishing Guides Services the following water bodies.

Arkansas River:
As a natural watershed for the mighty Sawatch Range on the west and the majestic Mosquito Range on the east, the Upper Arkansas Valley houses the headwaters of the Arkansas River. Winding through cool mountain canyons, high grassy meadows, and long, bouldered runs, the Arkansas River offers a variety of abundant biomass which provides the trout with a tremendous food source. The upper “Ark” is heavily populated with wild brown trout and offers an occasional hefty rainbow or cutthroat. It is most famous for its epic summer-long caddis hatches, but offers a variety of hatches from early spring to late summer and tremendous terrestrial action from late summer to well into the fall. River enhancements over the past two decades have restored the upper Arkansas River into a gold medal trout fishery located in the heart of the Central Colorado Rockies. We service all the public access from Leadville to the Pueblo Reservoir and also have private water opportunities on the Arkansas River.

South Park – South Platte (Dream Stream) / Spinney Reservoir:
With its consistent hatches and long, winding, ox bowed runs, the South Platte between Spinney and Eleven Mile Reservoirs (the Dream Stream) offers some of the best trout fishing in the entire state. With miles and miles of Gold Medal Water it can offer large brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout that are sometimes easier to measure in pounds as opposed to inches.  Spinney Reservoir is what feeds the Dream Stream and stands on its own as one of the state’s crown jewels when it comes to fishing for large trout.  If you want to target large fish on the fly then try some of our still water techniques on this awesome reservoir.
Turbulent weather accompanied by heavy winds is often the case in the afternoons, so trips to South Park are usually more productive with an early start.

East Fork of the Arkansas –
Just outside of Leadville is the confluence of Tennessee Creek and the East Fork of the Arkansas River.  At this confluence is the very origin of the Arkansas River, and just above this confluence we guide an abundance of private water on the East Fork.  This is smaller water where 6-14 wild brown trout reside in large quantities, with an occasional rainbow or cutthroat that can get quite large.  The East Fork is a great choice for the creek fisherman who likes a lot of action.

High Alpine Lakes/Busk Creek –
These backcountry experiences combine hiking, fishing, and some of the most picturesque scenery that Colorado has to offer!  Start with a moderate hike to get to Hagerman or Virginia Lake to have a chance at some of the most beautiful high country cutthroat you’ll ever see.  Or fish Busk Creek in the pristine valley leading up from the base of Hagerman Pass.  This Creek is a haven for wild brook and brown trout in a setting that is tough to beat anywhere!
Again, the Rocky Mountains can see its share of foreboding weather in the afternoons during the season so it’s best to get an early start for these backcountry treks.
